I was still in a dream when my eyes began to open. I had no need to stretch my arms or to take any deep breath. I stood up. Everything was dark. I looked to my sides and I began to see more clearly. It was still so dark. I wasn't in a panic, nor was I ever anxious. I wasn't alone. I kept looking around and the room began to light up somehow. I could make out a pattern in the wall. The wall was much too high to climb. The wall had no break and I couldn't see the edge should I ever even consider climbing it as an option. I heard fluttering very briefly. It startled me at first and I turned to see what it was. I swung my arm in the direction of the fluttering. I hit another wall. I was still in the dream. The room became dark again. I stood there for a few moments before the fluttering came back. I heard it to my left before it went silent. A dim light began to light up around me. I was at a staircase. I was at the top of the staircase but there was no door. I examined the wall by running my hands over the stone that had been used in its construction. It was a very detailed pattern. I ran my hand across the wall until it rounded off. I looked at my feet and noticed I wasn't in uniform. It was a staircase that winded downward. I heard the fluttering again. I took a few steps as quietly as I could, so as to not to give away my position. The fluttering continued, only this time it was moving away from me. This told me two very important things. Whatever was fluttering about noticed and continued on its way or, it didn't hear me and I could continue in pursuit. The staircase kept winding. I could just make out the fluttering further down. It had heard me and it had slowly began to pick up its pace. I didn't notice. I wasn't paying more attention. I started down the stairs as fast as I could. The fluttering wasn't so far away now. The staircase slowly began to unwind. It soon began to light up and I could see a doorway. I slowed my pace. The doorway was an empty darkness. The steps didn't continue. I kept my eyes fixed into the darkness of the doorway. I reached to the wall with my arms. I hadn't noticed the staircase had become so narrow. I reached out to the walls with both my arms. I could feel the dirt on the stones. I stopped and I could no longer feel the dirt on my fingertips. My arms were slowly falling to my sides. The walls started to fade away. The feint light was sky. I took a few more steps before stopping again. There were leaves falling around me. They were gold and bright yellow. Others were crimson. I began to feel light. I would float away into the everything that had surrounded me. I wasn't taking any more steps forward; I simply arrived at the doorway. The staircase began to fade away. Both of my feet began to relax as I found myself simply floating as if in water. I looked into the darkness. I kept staring into the nothingness. I moved forward somehow. I began to go further inside. The light was to my back now. I didn't dare turn away. I wasn't going to show fear. I was surrounded by dark clouds and shadows. There was a dark red smoke of some sort intermingling with everything in my vision. There were a few moments when I could just make out small lights in the distance around me. Several of them were light blue, others were dark blue. They began to appear more and more often. They also began to change in color and size. I was having trouble focusing. I heard the fluttering but I couldn't make out where it was coming from.
